What starts a Contact Purchase flow?
Keaz starts the flow as soon as an order by that contact is registered in your connected shop system, for example Shopify. The customer's phone number has to be captured at checkout — that is what lets Keaz match the order to a contact.
The sequence is always the same:
- The customer completes the purchase in your shop.
- The shop passes the order data to Keaz.
- Keaz matches the order to a contact.
- The flow starts.
How do I set up the trigger?
- Create a flow under Flows.
- Click the Starting point block.
- On the right, select the trigger event Contact purchase.
- Configure filters and Revenue Tracking as needed.
- Save.
Revenue tracking works with one discount code per flow — how revenue tracking works explains how to set it up.
What can I filter on?
The flow logic can build on the order itself:
- the products that were bought
- the order value
- the number of orders a contact has placed
- product categories
You can combine those filters with conditions and delays, so a message goes out 14 days after the purchase instead of straight away.
What do merchants use it for?
- Order confirmations and shipping updates on WhatsApp
- Collecting a double opt-in from a fresh customer
- Review and feedback requests — see collect reviews with Keaz
- Reorder reminders based on the purchase date
- Cross-sell and upsell messages after the purchase
What does it change beyond a single message?
Because every order arrives in Keaz as an event, purchase behaviour becomes something you can act on:
- Segmentation by what a contact actually bought, not by what they clicked
- Personalised content based on the products in the order
- Customer lifecycles that keep running without anyone starting them
- Repeat purchases prompted at the moment the last order runs out
- Revenue generated after the purchase with no manual step
What has to be in place first?
- Your shop is connected to Keaz — see Settings: Shopify Integration.
- Phone numbers are being collected at checkout — the Collect Phone Numbers After Checkout widget does that job.
- The contact has a valid opt-in. Opt-in levels explains what each level allows, and our guide to collecting WhatsApp opt-ins the GDPR-compliant way covers the legal side.
Frequently asked questions
Does the message go out immediately after the purchase?
Only if you want it to. The Starting point fires as soon as the order reaches Keaz, but you can add a delay so the message arrives hours or days later — for example 14 days after the purchase for a reorder reminder.
What happens if the customer did not give a phone number at checkout?
Then Keaz has no number to match the order to, and the flow does not start for that order. The Collect Phone Numbers After Checkout widget is the usual way to close that gap.
Can I see how much revenue a Contact Purchase flow produced?
Yes. Give the flow its own discount code and Keaz attributes the resulting orders to it. See "Revenue Tracking: one discount code per flow".
