Opt-in levels: how subscribing and unsubscribing works

Audience1 min readLast updated July 28, 2026

What is an opt-in level?

The opt-in level records how much consent a contact has given you. It is the state Keaz checks before a contact receives a message, which is why subscribing and unsubscribing are handled through this level rather than through a separate list you maintain by hand.

Where do I see a contact's opt-in level?

On the contact. Open the Contact details panel — for example from a conversation in the inbox — and look at Basic information: Opt-in Level is shown there as a coloured badge, next to fields like last activity and RFM.

How do I make sure a flow only reaches subscribed contacts?

Set the opt-in level as a filter in the flow's Starting point:

  1. Open the flow and click the Starting point block.
  2. Under Filters, add the filter Opt-in level.
  3. Define the minimum level required — for example Transactional.
  4. Save. Only contacts that meet at least that level enter the flow.

Remember that all conditions in a Starting point must be met at the same time: the trigger fires the flow, and filters like the opt-in level decide who actually receives it.

Why work with levels instead of a subscriber list?

Because not every message needs the same consent. An order update is not a marketing campaign. With levels you can let transactional messages reach a broader group while restricting promotional sends to contacts who clearly opted in — one contact record, different thresholds per flow.

Practical rule: set the opt-in filter on every marketing flow, not just the obvious ones. It is the single check that keeps your sends compliant as your contact base grows.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a separate subscriber list in Keaz?
No. Subscription status is expressed by the contact's opt-in level, which you can filter on per flow.
Where can I check whether a contact is subscribed?
In the Contact details panel under Basic information — Opt-in Level is shown as a coloured badge.
Can different flows require different consent?
Yes. Each flow's Starting point can define its own minimum opt-in level.
