Newsletter: Overview

What is a newsletter in Keaz?

A newsletter is a single message or campaign sent to every contact in a segment you choose. It is not an automated Flow: you create it actively and decide on content, audience and timing. That makes it the right tool for a promotion, a product drop or an announcement — anything that should reach a group now rather than react to individual behaviour.

The Newsletter dashboard lists everything you have created, with its status and its performance. The Create Newsletter button at the top right starts a new one: you pick a template or start without one, and the newsletter builder opens.

Who receives a newsletter?

Every contact in the segment you select, and only those. You cannot pick individual contacts for a send, which is deliberate: the audience is always something you can describe, reuse and check. If the group you need does not exist yet, build it first with the Segment Builder. The send panel shows the segment's contact count, so you see the size of the audience before you confirm.

What can a newsletter contain?

A newsletter consists of one or several messages in sequence — Message 1, Message 2 and so on — so a campaign can build across more than one step. Each message can be enriched with:

  • Media — an image, a video or a PDF.
  • Buttons — quick replies, links or a phone number, which is how a call to action reaches the customer.
  • Personalized variables, such as the contact's first name.
  • A footer text, for example the note on how to stop receiving messages.

Typical content is a promotion, a discount code, a product update, an announcement or a short survey.

When is a newsletter sent?

You have two options, both set in the send panel next to the message preview:

  1. Send now delivers the newsletter to everyone in the segment right after you confirm.
  2. Send later takes a date and a time to the minute. The newsletter is marked Scheduled and goes out automatically at that moment.

A scheduled newsletter stays editable until it goes out. You can change the content, move it to another time or cancel it entirely.

What does a newsletter report afterwards?

Each newsletter has its own evaluation covering revenue, cost, sent, delivered, read and click-through rate. Revenue is attributed to the individual campaign through its discount code, so you can compare one send against another instead of guessing — see how revenue tracking with discount codes works. If you are weighing WhatsApp campaigns against your email programme, our comparison of WhatsApp and email marketing sets out what the numbers look like on each channel.

How does a newsletter differ from a Flow?

A Flow runs on its own and reacts to an event, such as a purchase or an abandoned checkout. A newsletter is you deciding to say something to a group at a chosen moment. The two complement each other: Flows keep the always-on communication running, newsletters give you active campaign control for promotions, drops and updates. Automatic replies inside a conversation are a third thing again — those are covered in the Automations overview.

Frequently asked questions

Can I send a newsletter to a single contact?
No. Sending always goes through a segment. Build a segment that contains the contacts you mean, then select it in the send panel.
Can I still change a scheduled newsletter?
Yes. Content and time stay editable until the newsletter goes out, and you can cancel it entirely.
How many messages can one newsletter contain?
One or several, arranged in sequence as Message 1, Message 2 and so on, so a campaign can run over more than one step.
Where do I see what a newsletter earned?
In the newsletter's own evaluation, which reports revenue, cost, sent, delivered, read and click-through rate.
