How labels work

Where do I create a label?

Everywhere you can use a label, you can also create one — there is no separate label admin page to visit first. So if you need a new label while working in a contact or while setting up a flow, you create it right there.

Where do I edit or delete a label?

On the contact. Open a contact — for example via the Contact details panel in the inbox — and use the Labels section there. That panel lists every label currently assigned to the contact and offers Add label.

How do I apply labels to contacts?

Two ways:

  • From the buttons where labels appear — for a single contact, in the flow of your work.
  • With bulk actions — when you want to label many contacts at once.

What can I do with labels?

Two things matter most. In the inbox you can filter conversations by label, which keeps a busy inbox workable. In a flow's Starting point you can add Contact labels as an optional condition: the dropdown has a search field and shows all available labels in colour, and only contacts carrying the selected label enter the flow.

Note that in a Starting point all configured conditions must be met at the same time — the trigger fires the flow, and labels and filters narrow down who actually enters.

Labels or segments — what's the difference?

A label is something you assign yourself, so you decide what it means. Segments are groups a contact belongs to based on their data. Both are visible on the contact, and both can be used to target campaigns — labels are the manual, editorial tool of the two.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a central page to manage all labels?
No — you create labels wherever they're offered and manage them on the contact.
Can I label many contacts at once?
Yes, use bulk actions.
Do labels affect who receives a flow?
Yes. In a flow's Starting point, Contact labels restrict entry to contacts carrying the selected label.
